ROBERT W. TRACINSKI, THE INTELLECTUAL ACTIVIST 12, no. 12 (DECEMBER 1998)

Taking his lead from John Ridpath's critique of Chris Matthew Sciabarra's Ayn Rand:  The Russian Radical, Tracinski laments the continuing "academic deconstruction of Ayn Rand."  In this "Short Note," he does not review Feminist Interpretations of Ayn Rand.  Rather, he condemns the project based on its website.  While "Rand's ideas have long been unjustly ignored in academia," says Tracinski, it is "even worse" when "today's academics  . . . start to pay attention" to her.   The Feminist Interpretations of Ayn Rand website boasts "strategies of rereading Rand," which is "an academic catchphrase for distorting her writings in order to make them say whatever the reader wants them to say."  The book will not lead to serious study of Objectivism since it will engage Rand's writings "by the un-serious, dishonest methods of post-modernist academics."  Tracinski concludes:  "This book is a further demonstration of the fact that rational ideas have to be spread, not by winning over today's corrupt academics, but by replacing them."
