Bell writes:
"In this second edition of Chris's 1995 book, he traces the intellectual roots of 20th-century Russian-American novelist and philosopher Ayn Rand, plus her philosophy Objectivism. . . . In the nearly 20 years since his first edition, there's been an explosive increase in Rand sightings in books on philosophy, politics and culture; in film and literature; and in contemporary American politics, from the rise of the Tea Party to recent presidential campaigns. Chris has continued to work reclaiming the dialecticala method in the service of radical libertarian politics.
"This editions two new chapters document Rand's education at Petrograd State University. A new preface has the context of Chris's own research and the recent interest in Rand's beliefs. A postscript answers a critic of Sciabarra's historical work. . . . I've read parts of this book and beside his graceful writing, it's nice to sense how much he's enjoying writing. (That's a problem with some other Rand scholars.)
